Abstract

Abstract:

In industrial sectors such as: aeronautics, automotive or general mechanical industries, etc. Mechanical components are subjected to several types of stresses: thermal, chemical, mechanical and cyclical. These constraints cause a progressive degradation of the characteristics of the material, leading to a sudden rupture. For this purpose we have studied the mechanical behavior of an amorphous polymer, Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS), thought uniaxial tensile testing on pierced test pieces and with different notch lengths ranging from 1 to 14 mm. The proposed approach consists in analyzing the evolution of the global geometry of the strain curves obtained by considering the zones and the characteristic points of these curves and also taking into account the effect of the damage on the mechanical behavior of the polymers namely the ABS.
